15 February, 2016

On February 4th the inauguration of the solar plant NOORo I took place, inside the solar complex NOORo, in Ouarzazate, which will be, once concluded, the biggest on the planet. Chaired by the King of Morocco Mohamed VI, the event has brought together political representatives, being present the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation José Manuel García-Margallo and the French Minister of Ecology and Sustainable Development Segolène Royale, as well as directors of the construction consortium, including the chairman of TSK, Sabino García Vallina.

The construction consortium was led by the company from Gijón and was also formed by the Spanish companies Sener and Acciona. With 160 MWe of power and 3.5 hours of thermal storage, the solar thermal power plant will supply 500 GWh of solar energy per year, capable of satisfying the demand of 135,000 homes. NOORo I will prevent the emission of more than 140,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
